Where is my data stored?
DataShield performs file encryption and password-vault management locally. The application does not upload your files or stored passwords to a cloud service.
What encryption does DataShield use?
DataShield uses AES-256 authenticated encryption together with Argon2id password-based key derivation.
What file extensions does DataShield use?
Encrypted files use .dse. PassVault files use .dsv.
Can I encrypt entire folders?
Yes. Premium additionally supports recursive processing of complete directory trees.
What is secure file wiping?
Premium can overwrite source-file contents before deleting the source file after successful encryption or decryption. Secure deletion is irreversible.
Can I use Windows File Explorer integration?
Yes. DataShield supports file associations and Explorer integration on Windows, including convenient access to encryption/decryption workflows.
How many PassVaults can I create?
You can work with independent .dsv vault files. Premium removes the limitation on the number of entries stored in a vault.
What happens if I forget an encryption passphrase?
Your encrypted data may become permanently unrecoverable. Use a strong, long, unique passphrase and keep important passphrases safely recorded.
Is Premium a subscription?
No. Premium is offered as a one-time upgrade through the platform store.
